FRIDAY, March 18th

Ardu Bemis, The Iron Post, 9 p.m., ($5)

Ardu Bemis is a banjo-playing folk musician visiting us from Michigan. He will be playing at the Iron Post on Friday night along with local bluegrass group Hot Iron String Band and country duo The Legend of Levi Morgan. (JK)

 

Art Theatre Secret Screening, 126 Church St., 10 p.m., free

Since it’s the eight of these, by now you should know that the secret of the screening is in what is being shown…but it’s not much of a risk because 1) Austin chose it and 2) it’s free. So go to the Art Theatre, buy a drink and watch something unusual on the big screen. And if you want …spoilers…you can find it on facebook. (RK)

Ever wanted a sweet pond with fish in your backyard? Perhaps you already have one but it’s overgrown with moss? This is the talk for you. Show up at said location with your paper and pen and be prepared to learn to develop and maintain a beautiful pond in your backyard fish and all! (SL)

Who doesn’t want to know things about thier future: will I get a raise, will my crush ever reciprocate, will I win the lottery, will there be a new Orange is the New Black? People, are curious, I get it. That is why the fine folks at Beads N Botanicals are claming they can tell you what’s going down in your future. Who knows, maybe they can? (SL)

50 Shades of Creativity: Coloring for Adults, Urbana Free Library, 4 p.m., free

Coloring isn’t just for kids! Come out to the Urbana Free Library on Saturday afternoon and express yourself through the art of coloring. All supplies are provided. (JK)

Hip Hop Fitness with Carol Ammons, Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club, 6 p.m., tickets $15

CUDO Plays Season 3 Grand Exhibition, Urbana Civic Center 108 E. Water St., 1 p.m., free

Local folks have been hard at work for nearly six months to build a better board game. The final products have been turned in, and it’s your chance to test the results firsthand. Open gameplay of the contestants’ games will be happening all day, with a break for dinner (featuring Caribbean Grill foodtruck, nom) and awards presented at 7:30. (RK)

Be Outside, some public park somewhere, anytime, free

Sure, it’s cooling down this weekend, but remember how grey and nasty it was just a couple weeks ago? Now the leaves and blossoms are budding on the trees and things are looking alright. Spend some time outside, perhaps at Meadowbrook or Hessel Park, to soak in the new season. (RP)
