Searching for Sugar Man, Art Theater, Saturday, 3:00, 5:00, 7:30 | Sunday, 3:00, 5:00, 7:30 p.m.

The Art Theatre recommends this film to “just about everybody.” It’s a documentary about Rodriguez, “the greatest ’70s rock icon who never was.” Searching for Sugar Man follows two South African fans of Rodriquez, who are trying to find him and learn what happened to him.

Basement Gallery Grand Opening at 804 S. Lincoln Avenue, 6:00–9:00 p.m., free

Show your support for the local arts by attending the first Basement Gallery art exhibition. A handful of U of I students have taken the term “underground” and gone all the way with it. Located in the basement of 804 S. Lincoln Ave, artists Benjamin Barber, Sean O’Connor (our very own Photo Editor), Anders Pollack, Ali Sunseri, and Jack Kendall will showcase their artwork. You can even buy this stuff if you’re that interested.

Food and drink will be provided, with alcohol for those of age as well. Check out their website for more information about the project if you’re curious about what you are getting yourself into Friday night. (PS)

Do you like funky horns? How about ukuleles? Tight grooves? Dancing as if your limbs are working independently of your brain and better judgment? General weirdness? The Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra are playing Cowboy Monkey at 10:00 p.m., with Sun Stereo coming on at 11:30 p.m. (MG)

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10

Auditions for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Station Theatre, 4:00–6:00 p.m.

The Celebration Company at the Station Theatre will hold auditions for the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson on Saturday. Another round of auditions will take place the following week, on Saturday, November 17th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Auditions will be held at the Station Theatre. The performance dates of the play are January 17 through February 2. For more information on the play itself, check this out.

In the words of director Mikel Matthews, “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is a kick ass rock musical about the toughest President we ever did have. And we need people who can bring the rock. If you can play guitar, bring one and part of a rock song to sing. Other auditioners will be taught a few parts of the show at auditions so we can hear your rock voice.” (MG)

The Tagore Center at Channing-Murray Foundation celebrates its 27th annual Tagore Festival this Saturday. Rebecca Manning, Professor of Religious Studies at Indiana University will deliver the keynote address: “Tagore and the Unitarians.”

The evening will feature authentic Indian cuisine, music, and poetry in honor of Rabindranath Tagore, the first non-European to receive the Nobel prize for literature in 1913.

Coed Pageant, Zapruder Point, and The Fights at Mike ‘N Molly’s, 9 p.m., $5

Coed Pageant has been fairly prolific in small bursts this year. They will be releasing their fourth, yes their fourth, EP this year on Saturday night. The Fallout EP, is appropriately titled for their Fall release, and follows their winter, spring, and summer releases spread out across the year. Joining them is Zapruder Point of Chicago, and The Fights, the newest endeavor of former Elsinore drummer Dave Pride alongside members of Anna Karenina/Anna Karina. (PS)
