Market Watch: Turns up the heat

This is what’s called Crazy Time at the Market. It’s peak season, so attendance is highest, and there’s a lot going on events-wise, too. To wit: this weekend’s Market includes a bike rodeo, a mentoring event, truckloads of corn, many varieties of heirloom tomatoes, the first appearance of melons, etc. It’s also going to be a bit warmer than we’ve been experiencing so far this summer, but no problem! It’s supposed to be warm in the summer, so fill up your water bottle, locate your sunscreen, gather up some of those reusable shopping bags, and get over to Lincoln Square Saturday morning!

This week’s food: You can expect a lot of sweet corn, peaches and nectarines, berries (especially blackberries), early apples, pears, cucumbers, zucchini and summer squash, eggplant, onions, potatoes, melons, cabbage, lettuces, peppers (hot and sweet), heirloom tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and much more. Don’t forget the wide selection of baked goods and prepared foods, plus meat, cheese, eggs, and honey. This is the time! The fresh stuff is plentiful and gorgeous (have you seen the Market’s flickr?) and local. If you have questions about the produce, YOU CAN ASK THE GROWER. How cool is that?

Of Note:

It’s National Farmers’ Market Week, with an official proclamation from the US Department of Agriculture and everything! Come show us some love.

– Market posters are for sale at the City tent – they’re numbered, limited to 100, and will only cost you $2.00. Available until they’re gone – and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
