The Overture: June 21–27

WHAT: Horse Feathers, Hello Mtn, Ryan Groff

WHERE: Highdive ($8)

WHEN: Tuesday, June 21st at 8:00 p.m.

Tuesday night brings the hushed acoustics of Portland, Oregon’s Horse Feathers to the Highdive. Their hushed acoustic meanderings and string swells should be the perfect soundtrack to a warm summer evening. Hello Mtn and Ryan Groff kick things off at 8:30.

WHAT: Tina Sparkle, Sleepy Vikings

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Friday, June 24th at 9:00 p.m.

Tina Sparkle have been sharpening their chops in the Peoria scene for several years, with the occasional show in Champaign-Urbana. Coming off a southern tour supporting their debut album Welcome to the No Fun House, they should be on their best game this Friday.

WHAT: Urbana Blues, Brews and BBQ Festival

WHERE: Downtown Urbana (FREE)

WHEN: Friday, June 24th–Saturday, June 26th

Love or hate them, you have to admit that street festivals do exist in Champaign-Urbana. Case in point being this weekend’s Blues Fest, which is sure to feature copious amounts of Miller Lite and middle aged men in lawn chairs, in addition to some excellent music. We recommend checking out Chris Duarte on Saturday night at 88 Broadway. Dude can shred.

WHAT: In Living Pink Benefit with Tricia Scully, Eleni Moraites, Angie Heaton, Grandkids, Hathaways

WHERE: Highdive ($10 advance)

WHEN: Saturday, June 25th at 4:00 pm.

Aside from benefiting a great cause (the Young Survival Coalition, which supports young women diagnosed with breast cancer), this ticket also gets you some ritzier stuff you won’t normally find at a show, like food and a silent auction. Be sure to get out early, as the event kicks off at four.
