English singer-songwriter Frank Turner has a history in punk and hardcore genres, which puts a unique spin on his folk-pop music. He and his backing band The Sleeping Souls will be accompanied by Arkells and Will Varley.

Crywolf’s electronica is a little interoverted, if you can imagine. He will be spinning an evening at Canopy that will be a bit more on the thoughtful side than your typical deejay show.

Old Fox Road take their fun-loving punk and power-pop tunes on tour whenever they can, and on Wednesday they’ll be home and rockin’ it with Nick Rainey and Condition Oakland.

The Head is in from Georgia, and Table Talk and Slick Lisp are welcoming them to join in a rock show on the Record Stage.

WHAT: Black Violin

WHERE: Krannert Center (K-12 shows are $5, regular show is waitlist only)

WHEN: K-12 show is Thursday and Friday, Sept. 29-30 at 10 a.m., regular show is Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

This intriguing, original event features two musicians classically trained in violin and viola that have come together to create harmony between hip-hop and classical music. The duo is highly lauded, and the men have worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, rock, and soul music. Two shows are school performances, geared towards ages K-12. The remaining show is waitlist only,  so you’d better get your name on it now.

WHAT: Decadents: Live Album Recording

Local mainstays Decadents will be bringing down the house of Cowboy Monkey on Friday, as they record their performance that night to make a live album. The $5 door fee includes a download code to be used when the album comes out later in the year.

WHAT: Matoma with Cheat Codes, Steve Void, and Baynk

Norwegian DJ Matoma had a mainstream hit last year with “Running Out,” and toured with the Chainsmokers last year. The producer will be spinning for this late show on Friday.

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 30th at 8 p.m.

You might know Grace Potter for her song “Paris (Oh La La),” and she’s got an expansive catalog to check out behind that. The rocking pop star is sure to put on a huge show, especially with The Virginia as her stage.

Unit One brings us yet another compelling and educational event with a performance by hip-hop collective Elephant Rebellion, which will be held in conjunction with the seminar “Growing Up Asian.” The group will perform songs about identity and self-discovery, as well as a mashup of sijo, a classical Korean style of poetry.

This Saturday, Fluid Event Center will host a huge record sale with reasonably priced music, DVDs, CDs, and much more. All proceeds go to benefit Illinois Radio Reader. Get there early to get your hands on the best stuff.

WHAT: Fourth St. Records Launch / Maddy Marsan Album Release Show

WHERE: Fourth St. Records (206 S. 4th St. in Champaign) ($5 suggested donation)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 1st at 9 p.m.

Singer-songwriter and oboist Maddy Marsan will celebrate the release of her new album Nocturnes on Saturday, and she is sharing the party with her label. Fourth Street Records announces their official launch with this show, and several other musicians will take part in the festivities as well.
