On April 23, 2005, the first YouTube video was uploaded by University of Illinois alum Jawed Karim, who co-founded of the now-massively popular and influential medium alongside fellow alum Steve Chen and Chad Hurley. The U of I pointed this out on Twitter today, and, well, there’s not much more to say about it besides the fact that this community churns out amazing things, and YouTube is one of the greatest ones.
Here’s the tweet from U of I, but also the very first YouTube video below, which is Karim at the zoo, which is… you know, pretty amazingly mundane. It of course has 90 million views.
