A sad day for the Mattis Avenue post office

Exterior view of the Mattis Avenue Post Office. A brick building with the USPS emblem above the door and "United States Post Office Champaign, Illinois" in metal letters below it. The entrance is glass. There is a we're hiring sign out front.

The United States Postal Service processing and distribution center on Mattis Ave is going to be modernized into a local processing center and people are not happy. Earlier this year, we wrote an editorial about the situation and the impact these changes would have. People have protested, filled out survey’s, and Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (D-IL) even tried to halt the change by filing a bill in Congress to try and stop the USPS from consolidating. But it seems as though changes are imminent. The USPS has promised to invest up to $16.4 million to help streamline operations and has also promised that no layoffs will be made.
