Are you a pickleball person?

Did you know that pickleball was invented in 1965 by a congressman and his buddy? I just learned that fact today.

It seems like this sport is everywhere now.

A new pickleball court was installed last year along John Street in Centennial Park, and the Champaign Park District has a number of other courts, and there’s a league that you can sign up for. The Savoy Rec Center has daytime and evening open pickleball times. Urbana Park District will be hosting open pickleball gyms at Brookens weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning August 14th. There are also pickleball lines on courts at Blair Park.

I’ve never tried it, but I’m so curious. Have you ever played? What do you like about it? What is the draw of pickleball? It seems like a lot of older folks play, which is great! Are there pickleballers in other age groups? Could this become a school sport?
