Be a part of the Human Library at Pygmalion

A brown-skinned man wearing a white t-shirt with a black and white logo that says "readers advisory." He is talking with two white people who are facing him, their backs to the camera. On the left of the image, the person is wearing a red and black plaid flannel shirt. On the right a white man is wearing shorts and a gray t-shirt. They are sitting around a small round dark metal table.

The Human Library Champaign-Urbana is looking for “books” for the upcoming Pygmalion festival. This year’s event will take place at Rose Bowl Tavern on September 24th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If you aren’t familiar with what happens at a Human Library event, here is the description from the website:

A Human Library is an event that aims to create dialogue and understanding between people. Individuals volunteer as human ‘books’ and participants in the event can ‘read’ the book- meaning they would have a one on one conversation with the volunteer and share in a dialogue about that individual’s experience.

Volunteers are people who have experienced some form of marginalization or discrimination, and are willing to share their experiences with others. If you are interested in participating, start by filling out their form. The Human Library organizers will reach out to you with next steps. If you have questions, you can contact [email protected].
