A byline that you’ve probably seen here at Smile Politely has been circulating a bit wider the last few days. Writer and social justice activist Brian Dolinar wrote this piece, “The Trump Administration Just Opened a New Immigrant Prison in Rural Michigan”, published by In These Times, “an independent, nonprofit magazine, is dedicated to advancing democracy and economic justice” which you should absolutely read. The article sheds light on the for-profit prison system, specifically the North Lake Correctional Facility in Baldwin, MI operated by the country’s largest private, for-profit prison corporation GEO.
The article has made some waves on the internet, getting shares from Elizabeth Warren, who of course is running to secure the Democratic nomination in this year’s Presidential election. Filmmaker Michael Moore also shared it:
