JIMMY JOHN’S DONATES BIG FOR KIDS
November 8, 2016 – With an initial donation of $25,000 in 2015, Jimmy John’s is once again coming through for kids by donating $125,000 to the Champaign Parks Foundation in support of the Youth Scholarship Program. This agreement will span five years and will help provide fee waivers for families who otherwise would be not be able to enroll their children in park district programs.
Each year nearly 400 families are helped through the Youth Scholarship Program, and every year the need grows, but funding becomes more limited. As a government agency, park district program expenses are covered either by fees or taxes. Scholarships however, cannot be supported using tax dollars, making gifts like the one being given by Jimmy John’s even more important. As a result of this donation, hundreds of kids will be able to attend day camps, learn to swim, play sports or enjoy other recreation programs.
“The Champaign Park District does a spectacular job giving the youth of Champaign opportunities to improve their physical health, introduce them to the arts, and help them build social relationships and self-confidence. We are happy to help the park district help more kids,” said Jimmy John Liautaud, owner and founder of Jimmy John’s.
The Champaign Parks Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established to provide philanthropic support to the Champaign Park District. Along with program scholarships, donations help fund park and facility development and improvements like the restoration of the Virginia Theatre.
