Champaign Urbana Symphony Orchestra

The Champaign Urbana Symphony Orchestra is playing at Foellinger Great Hall tonight at 7:30. A Russian Festival, conducted by Stephen Alltop and featuring Wendy Warner on cello, is at The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

The CUSO presents a springtime festival from Russia. Russian Easter Overture by the great orchestrator Rimsky-Korsakov features soulful melodies and blazing orchestral highlights. Many soloists from the orchestra will have a chance to shine in this stirring work. Works for solo cello by Glazunov and Tchaikovsky draw upon elements of past musical eras while displaying the full range of this highly expressive instrument. A tour-de-force with few peers in the symphonic repertoire, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 reveals the intense inner feelings, fears, and aspirations of its composer.

The performance is approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. Tickets are $5-35.
