City of Champaign recognizing local unsung heroes at STAR Awards tomorrow night

Every successful community has more than just strong local government programs. Of course that stuff is important, but the people and businesses are ultimately responsible for making their communities stand out. Many important programs for the less fortunate and youth programs are run by people who volunteer their free time to make sure that there are opportunities for all walks of life. Oftentimes those people go unnoticed or unrecognized by the general public — and that’s okay, almost everyone that volunteers their time for these causes don’t do it to be recognized.

With that said, though, the City of Champaign is honoring those special people and organizations in town that are committed to improving our community through service at this year’s STAR Expo/Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Garden Inn on Thursday evening.

The 8 categories that local people and organizations were nominated for are Business-Neighborhood Partnership, Community Partner, Difference Maker, Good Neighbor Award, Neighborhood-Community Building, Neighborhood Leadership, Neighborhood of the Year, and Rising Star.

Details for the event can be found here.
