Now that it’s hot, it feels like summer, and I want to do all the summery things. That includes picnic lunches.

Looking for lunch to go, I stopped by Come Get This food truck at the corner of Springfield and Prospect across from Pekara Bakery & Bistro. Come Get This recently reopened after a fire destroyed the original truck.

I went for that day’s special: two Chicago dogs with fries ($10). Immediately, if you know, you know: it wasn’t a poppyseed bun, but that’s where my criticism ends. Everything else — the fresh tomatoes, chopped onions, long pickle, sport peppers, relish, celery salt, healthy squeeze of mustard, and the snap of the all-beef — was exactly right. On a hot day, the dogs tasted freaking delicious.

My husband ordered the Philly cheesesteak ($10), which also came with fries. When we ordered, they asked if we wanted double meat, and being basic, we said no, regular was fine. The sandwich was good, but we regretted not ordering double meat because the meat was really good, and the bun could’ve handled more for sure. That said, we loved the side of seasoned crinkly fries that came with both lunches.

The truck had music blasting, and service was friendly. Come Get This’ food was picnic perfect because the food was good and packaged well — and also there wasn’t seating at Speed Lube. Though the truck has been parking at Speed Lube, follow the food truck on Facebook to see where it’ll be parked.
