Community press conference and march against Champaign police officer Matt Rush

Today at 5:30, community members and a coalition of local organizations will meet at the Champaign Police Department (University and First) to protest Officer Matt Rush’s continued presence as an active duty officer in Champaign.

Rush has had numerous complaints filed against him and been involved in several documented incidents involving excessive use of force on local residents. Although fired by Police Chief Anthony Cobb, the police union fought his dismissal.

From 6:15 to 7 p.m., communuty members will march from the police station to the Champaign City Council meeting, where local officials will be asked to approve a $225,000 settlement with Benjamin Mann, who was beaten by Rush in March 2014.
