Don’t sleep on the breakfast sandwich at Bread Company

I’m not really a breakfast person, but sometimes I wake up and need a freaking sandwich. Most sandwich shops don’t open until lunch, but The Bread Company on Goodwin Avenue opens at 9 a.m. and serves a killer breakfast sandwich. Back in the pandemic, I fell in love with this ham sandwich, and nearly four years later, it’s still something I crave on the regular.

On from-scratch bread, the brekkie sammie ($9.50) has scrambled egg, dijoinnaise, and Swiss cheese with a choice of an add-in. I always pick ham because Bread Co has really good ham. Cooked a little so it was piping hot, the ham tasted so good with the buttery, toasted bread and melted, gooey Swiss. It had a good cheese pull and a little tang from the dijionnaise, just enough to make a flavor party.

Served in tin foil whether the order is to-go or dine in, Bread Co’s breakfast sandwich also comes in a half size for $3 less. Other add-in options (besides ham) are sausage, bacon, mushroom, spinach, or tomato.

Breakfast at The Bread Company doesn’t last long — just 9 to 10:45 a.m. and only on weekdays, so seriously, don’t sleep on it. Bread Co’s breakfast menu is super short (just this one breakfast sandwich, a cinnamon roll, croissants, cookies, and drip coffee), but that’s fine because all I really need is that ham sammie.
