Dr. Rochelle Sennet releases new album in Bach to Black: Suites for Piano series

In the recently released Bach to Black: Suites for Piano, Volume III, Dr. Rochelle Sennet combines Bach’s English Suites with compositions from Black composers, creating a rich tapestry of musical dialogue and dance. She describes the suites as embodying “beauty, excellence, contrast, celebration of dance style, and dialogue,” recorded on a Yamaha grand in Foellinger Great Hall at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. This volume, available on Albany Records, continues her exploration of these themes, offering a unique blend of classical and contemporary music.

Volume I and Volume II set the stage for this exploration, receiving acclaim and awards for their innovative approach to classical music. Dr. Sennet, a distinguished performer, teacher, and scholar with a DMA from the University of Illinois, has been featured in numerous competitions and conferences, showcasing her commitment to highlighting the works of Black composers alongside Bach’s compositions. Her recordings for Albany Records reflect her dedication to this unique musical intersection, enriching the classical music landscape with diverse narratives and sounds.
