Eastern Illinois Foodbank is encouraging actions to fight hunger in September

September is Hunger Action Month, and Eastern Illinois Foodbank is joining other food banks around the country to raise awareness of the 40 million Americans who are food insecure.

The campaign is hoping to see 40,000 actions, whether it’s a donation, volunteer shift, or even a post on social media. From Jim Hire, President and CEO of EIF: “It’s important that the people we serve in our community have access to enough food to reach their full potential or thrive, especially our children, who cannot grow, succeed or learn when hungry. The people facing hunger could be our neighbors, kids in our children’s classes and others, often much closer than we think. That’s why it’s important for our community to remember that every action counts when it comes to fighting hunger.”

So what can you do locally? Head over to the EIF website and look up their volunteer opportunities. They’ve got a major 12 hour volunteer event coming up September 27th, called Operation Orange where community members can sign up to repack food donations into smaller packages for distribution.

If your time is limited, consider a donation of either funds or food
