Emerging artists present “Forms,” A Boneyard Arts Festival event at the Y

The University YMCA announces the opening reception of Art @ the Y’s upcoming exhibit “Forms” works by emerging artists Heather Gode, Jessica Rojas, and Kristina Sandefur, all from the School of Art & Design at the University of Illinois. A viewing of the artwork will begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday,  April 11; however, the time of the artist talk is TBA. All art viewing is free to the public and all are encouraged to attend..

Through color, form, medium, and content, we strive to achieve a formal language that creates conversation about physicality vs. ethereality, seduction vs. repulsion, and beauty vs. the grotesque. Through these dualities, we manage to either reconcile these conflicting ideas, or create visual dissonance.

Our proposal for the exhibition consists of work that addresses ideas surrounding physicality and the nature of the human body, establishing an audience reaction. We have created an atmosphere of the visceral that encompasses physical space.

This exhibition invites the viewer to consider the full range of the human form and the tensions that surround its interpretations.

“Forms” opening reception is a Boneyard Arts Festival event. The exhibit will run weekdays from 9 a.m.–9 p.m. from April 11 through May 5 in Murphy Gallery at the University YMCA. Learn more here.
