Enjoy nature as you Pedal the Preserves

A long wooden bridge stretches to the horizon, where there are green leafy trees. There is a person on a bicycle in the distance.

Champaign County Forest Preserve and Prairie Cycle Club are planning a big cycling event on August 19th, for all levels of biking enthusiasts. From the press release:

Pedal the Preserves is more than a bike ride; it’s also a celebration of nature and, the discovery of new places. The event brings together bicycling enthusiasts, Forest Preserve supporters, nature lovers, and all community members for the chance to enjoy the benefits of the Forest Preserve’s efforts.

There are four different participation options, of varying lengths:

  • Up to 12 miles- choose your distance on the Kickapoo Rail Trail
  • 20-mile loop- Kickapoo Rail Trail and Homer Lake
  • 65-mile loop with optional add-ons- Kickapoo Rail Trail, Homer Lake, and Middle Fork
  • 65-mile loop with camping at Middle Fork Saturday night and return ride on Sunday

If you go all out and decide to camp, you’ll also get to experience cool things like the Hot Iron String Band from 5 to 7 p.m., and La Mixteca Food Truck from 4 to 8 p.m. If I’m biking all the way to Middle Fork, I’m gonna need a couple of tacos.

To participate, you need to register online by August 16th at 5 p.m. Check will be between 7 and 9 a.m. on the 19th, at Meier Field in St. Joe.
