Hang on to your hazardous waste for a bit longer

A long table and a rolling cart have various sizes of bottles of chemicals sitting on them. There are people in white hazmat suits standing behind the table.

Right about now we would usually be sharing information about a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event for Champaign County. This has been an annual April event for a while now. Unfortunately, it’s on hold for the moment. Here is the update from Nichole Millage, environmental sustainability specialist for the City of Champaign:

Regarding this year’s IEPA-Sponsored One-Day Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Event in Champaign County…the event is still TBD. The IEPA has not secured a contractor at this time, so no 2024 event dates have been set. We were hoping to host an event in April again, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. However, we are still actively working to secure an event date for 2024! So as soon as we have more info, we will be sure to let you know! Thank you!

There are long term collection facilities in Illinois, but you’ll need to travel a bit to get to them. When a date is secured for a collection event here, we will surely announce it!
