Heirship Records and The Undercut Collective announce a benefit show with Speedy Ortiz

Heirship and Undercut hit us with a lovely surprise today — a star-studded show at the Institute 4 Creativity taking place September 10th and benefitting The UP Center of Champaign County. The money raised will go toward establishing a fund for homeless LGBT youth.

RSVP to the Facebook event, and see the press release below for more information.

URBANA—Heirship Records is collaborating with Undercut Collective, a booking collective started by U-C teen Saskia Bakker, to present an event featuring queer voices to benefit queer youth.

The concert will feature rock bands: locals Withershins and Marathon, Indiana’s Spandrels, and headliners Palehound and Speedy Ortiz. In between the band sets, poets will perform spoken word pieces, including Bakker herself, as well as T.R.U.T.H, acclaimed local emcee.

The benefit will establish a fund at The Up Center of Champaign County to assist homeless youth. With the recognition of same-sex marriage nationwide and the conversations that followed, 2015 has been a historic year for LGBT Americans. With a set of monumental victories behind us, we must now set our sights on issues that are less tidy, issues that affect the marginalized and the unheard. LGBT youth are vulnerable to violence, suicide, and homelessness at high rates that need to be squashed in any way possible. Every generation has taken a swing at changing the world. This is ours.

Event is $7, All Ages, and will begin at 7:00 PM at Institute 4 Creativity, 111 S Walnut, downtown Champaign, IL.
