Here’s a very cool collection of C-U’s historic neon signs

A neon sign in at 415 East University Avenue, Champaign in 1939 has an ice cream sundae, a decanter of milk, and below the words "champaign sanitary milk."

In 2017 the Kip Pope Family donated a collection of photographs of neon signs in Champaign-Urbana from about 1939. The Champaign County History Museum recently shared this Flickr account with the images; they look incredible.
