Here’s your last chance to tell the City of Champaign how it should spend $25 million

A few weeks ago we shared a list of opportunities for you to share your thoughts about how the City of Champaign should spend the $25 million it received from the American Rescue Plan. The last chance to do so is Tuesday, August 10th at 5:30 and again at 7 p.m. There will be information about how the money can be spent, as well as activities and refreshments for participants.

As we’ve written about, there are plenty of areas where we think the City could spend this grant money. Time to share your thoughts about it, too.

Additional details are in the press release below.

Public Invited to Attend Events and Provide Input on Utilization of American Rescue Plan Grant Funding

CHAMPAIGN – The City of Champaign encourages residents to join us for a fun Community Engagement Activity on August 10, 2021, and to provide feedback and suggestions on how the City can best utilize the $25.2 million in Federal funding the City is receiving through the American Rescue Plan. The first Community Engagement Activity starts at 5:30 pm and will be followed by a repeat session at 7:00 pm. Both events will be held at the Illinois Terminal (4th floor, 45 E. University Ave.) in Downtown Champaign.

Each Community Engagement Activity will begin with a brief presentation about the funding objectives and allowable uses for the American Rescue Plan funding. This will be followed by an open house with fun, engaging activities to allow residents to prioritize how they feel the grant funding would best be utilized.  Free refreshments will be served, and all ages are welcome to attend.  Free parking will also be available in the parking lot adjacent to the Illinois Terminal.

City staff will compile all comments and suggestions received from the public through this comprehensive public input process, which included several community input meetings and a public survey.  This community feedback will be shared publicly as the City Council meets later this year to make decisions about spending the American Rescue Plan funds.

We encourage residents to learn more about the American Rescue Plan and Local Recovery Funds and public input opportunities on the City’s website at champaignil.gov/ARP.
