Himalayan Chimney’s lassoni gobi is flawless

Himalayan Chimney’s lassoni gobi is flawless in my opinion. Yesterday, I ordered the lassoni gobi appetizer ($9.99) as a vegetarian lunch, and that plate of hot, saucy fried cauliflower was totally delicious just like every other time I’ve eaten the app.

Garnished with fresh cilantro, wrapped in a crispy batter, and tossed in a ruby red sauce, the fried cauliflower hit. I loved the delicate crunch of the thin, tempura-like batter around steamed cauliflower trees and how that sauce ensured every bite was covered with flavor. Chopped in varying sizes, big bites tasted more cauliflower-forward; smaller ones had a higher ratio of batter to cauli for a crunchier bite. Glossy sauce soaked the crispy batter with spicy-sweet flavor, slowly deflating the airy exterior the longer it sat uneaten — a perfect excuse to scarf it down quickly. A subtle spiciness on the first bite, the heat did build, but I wouldn’t call the dish all that spicy.

This dish is literally the only thing that will satisfy my craving for saucy, spicy fried cauliflower in C-U.

The Downtown Champaign restaurant serves Indian cuisine for dine in and carryout seven days a week. Though it’s good for takeout, the lassoni gobi tastes best dining in at the restaurant.
