I am thoroughly enjoying this croissant bread from Central Illinois Bakehouse

I love croissants. So much. I love all kinds of filling in them, but also I can just devour a flaky butter croissant with no problem.

This past Saturday I stopped by the Central Illinois Bakehouse tent (who by the way has created a great new setup that relieves the usual lengthiness of the line) at Urbana’s Market at the Square to look for some tasty breakfast items. I noticed something I’d never seen there before — a loaf of croissant bread. I’m sorry, what now? An entire loaf of croissant? Why of course I will buy this. Note: the photo is showing half of the loaf. While you can buy many CI Bakehouse breads as a half loaf, this one comes full-sized.

The label on the $8.95 item mentioned that it is great for French toast, which I’m sure is true. That light and airy croissant texture surely soaks up the custard perfectly. Unfortunately I have not tried this yet. However, I’ve been slicing off pieces and toasting them up, then topping with butter and/or jam or fruit butter and it’s making me very happy.

They will be at the Champaign Farmers Market this evening, though the inventory is a bit smaller on Tuesdays. Definitely stop by the Urbana market next Saturday. You can also order any of their items online, and pick them up at their Champaign bakehouse location.
