It’s hot, so let’s think about fall

The heat indices this week are truly silly and unnecessary, and I’m over it. I’m always over summer by the time August rolls around, and the extreme temps are just piling on.

Let’s take our minds off the oppressiveness of outside for a minute, and think about fall. It will eventually be here, even though it always comes later than I’m comfortable with. Here are a few things I’m looking forward to in that glorious time when sweater weather arrives. I’d love to hear what you would add to the list. As we’ve discussed here before, autumn in C-U is really great.

  • Fall coffee flavors – Columbia Street Roastery’s fall seasonal flavored coffee (the best seasonal flavors IMO) are on the horizon. Also, keeping my fingers crossed for some sort of pumpkin cream cold brew drink showing up Espresso or Kopi or Pekara.
  • Pumpkin things – Speaking of fall flavors, I love pumpkin. I understand that the pumpkin spice thing gets a little out of control, but you can’t argue with pumpkin pancakes or pumpkin crepes or pumpkin cookies (that word really starts to look strange when you type it out so many times in a row).
  • Changing leaves – I just love walks through Busey Woods, Lake of the Woods, Allerton, or really anyplace where there are trees and a trail when the leaves are all the colors. A few years ago, Tom shared his favorite “spooky” trees in C-U, if that is more your vibe.
  • That first Illinois football game when the weather is crisp. Not cold, but crisp. When you might bring some chili to the tailgate.

What else?
