It’s marathon weekend

The finish line of the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon in Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois. The finish line is in the distance with a big blue with white text banner that reads FINISH. There is a large jumbotron screen behind that says Christie Clinic and Illinois Marathon. There stadium is empty.

April is quite the busy month in Champaign-Urbana. On April 6th, the University of Illinois School of Art & Design MFA students celebrated the completion of their degrees with an opening reception at Krannert Art Museum. The following weekend, the Boneyard Arts Festival invited the community to explore all sorts of venues, local businesses, and spaces, while introducing all of us to new local artists.

Last week / weekend was the 25th Annual Ebertfest, a film festival celebrating “films that haven’t received the recognition they deserved during their original runs.” Did you attend? We did — you can read our thoughts on the films we saw

This Saturday is the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon. A whole heck of a lot of people will spend their mornings running long distances. Some of you may feel inconvenienced by this, but I ask that you consider not only the fact that these runners have been training for a long time to achieve this goal, but also the economic impact on the community. It’s just one morning a year, so luxuriate in a slow, quiet morning, do some yard work, or simply move your car to a street that isn’t boxed in by the marathon route. There is a six hour limit for the marathon, so all runners should be done around 1:30 p.m.

If you need something to do with that time, may I recommend getting caught up on our April events coverage, or doing a deep dive into our food and drink section
