In the spring, Allerton Park and Retreat Center announced their plans to launch the first folk school in Illinois, a program which is “adult-centered and includes an informal style of learning that sees community members stepping up to lead the instruction, which is based on experiential learning.”

Registration for the 15 fall class options is now open. The Farms: An Allerton Folk School has a variety of class options. You can learn weaving or embroidery, guitar or dulcimer, and even improv. Most classes are for adults, though there is a Creature Design for World Building and Storytelling class that is meant for 10-14 year olds. Sessions range from $20-235, depending on the course.

Seems like a cool opportunity, to be a part of this first venture. Space in limited, so if you’re interested it’s probably best to snag a spot soon.

If you have a skill or knowledge to share, and are interested in teaching a class for the winter session, apply to do that by September 1st.
