Yesterday, as part of the Working Families bus tour, Governor J.B. Pritzker and Lieutenant Governor Julianna Stratton did a meet and greet event in the Illini Union Ballroom. It was hosted by Illini Democrats and open to the public.

They were joined on stage by Champaign County Democratic Party Chair Mike Ingram, Champaign County Clerk and Recorder Aaron Ammons, State Senator Scott Bennett, IL-13 candidate Nikki Budzinski, and Pritzker’s wife Mary Kathryn (M.K.). Ammons, Bennett, Budzinski, Stratton, and Pritzker offered remarks after an intro from Ingram to a crowd of students, area Democratic candidates and officials, and community members.

They collectively hit on themes of democracy, reproductive rights, the contrast between the Illinois economy under the previous governor as compared to Pritzker, and the $15 minumum wage that Budzinksi and Pritzker worked on together. There was an emphasis on the importance of student involvement and activism.

The last time Pritzker visited C-U he toured a vaccination site, just as the COVID vaccines where getting rolled out more broadly.

Remember the last time Rauner visited C-U? That was fun.
