There’s a brand new food business called Pond Street serving a fantastic panko-breaded catfish sandwich. Based in Urbana, Pond Street is currently only doing pop-ups and private events around Champaign-Urbana, but there are plans to open a food truck soon.

At the New Year’s Eve pop-up event at ISHI restaurant in Champaign, the menu had two dishes: a special ramen by ISHI  —  which was amazing — and Pond Street’s original fish sandwich ($8), a soft furikake brioche bun with panko-breaded catfish on shredded cabbage with red onion, tomato, house-made pickles, and a white balsamic dill aioli. The crispy batter on the flaky fish was awesome, and altogether with the special bun and tasty toppings, it was a freaking delicious sando.

The Pond Street chef said he plans to do more pop ups with other Champaign-Urbana restaurants and chefs, so keep an eye on the new restaurant’s instagram for updates on when you can catch this fish sandwich.
