Spice Box, the UIUC student-run restaurant on campus, will open for the semester starting Friday, February 2nd. Each dinner service, Spice Box transforms into a different restaurant with a unique menu, theme, and decor designed by students enrolled in the University of Illinois Hospitality Management Program. This semester, the students will cook up a Hawaiian concept, Lebanese food, Korean-American fusion, bayou-inspired New Orleans cuisine, and more.

The very first dinner is a food science showcase by Bevier culinary instructors. Spring semester’s inaugural multi-course dinner will include bread service, an appetizer of mushroom croquettes, a salad with panzanella and preserved lemon pesto, a main of pork tenderloin with fig-pocini demi glace, and passion fruit panna cotta for dessert.

Each concept at the student-run restaurant will only be available for one night. Diners can choose whether they’d prefer four courses or two. Soda, wine, beer, and cocktails are available as well. For more about the food, read my 2023 review of Spice Box and one from 2019.

Reservations are available from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays from February to May. See all the themed dinner selections and make a reservation (or two) here.
