Stango Cuisine is closing in Urbana and relocating to Champaign

This Sunday, July 31st, Stango Cuisine will close their Urbana restaurant inside the Lincoln Square Mall to relocate to Downtown Champaign. The Zambian restaurant is teaming up with barbecue restaurant Wood N’ Hog to use the kitchen at 500 N Walnut Street.

Stango will close this Sunday in Urbana and anticipates opening in Champaign next Friday, August 5th.

The restaurant announced the move on Facebook last night.

For five years, Mubanga Chanda, the owner, has cooked incredible Zambian dishes for C-U inside the Lincoln Square Mall. We have loved the restaurant since it opened in the food court in 2017. In those five years, we’ve shared Julie’s love for the Stango Restaurant Week offerings, Madeline’s 2018 review of the food court location, and Zoe’s 2019 review of Stango’s restaurant location. This year, Stango made it into Tias’ list of Saturday morning eats, my February list of foods to try, my inimitable wings list, and this list of excellent Black-owned food businesses.

Stango will continue to be a vendor at the Urbana Market at the Square, so the restaurant’s delicious beef pies will still be available at the market every Saturday morning.
