U of I wheelchair athletes have quite a stellar record at the Boston Marathon (and wheelchair marathons generally). Last year Daniel Romanchuk won his second men’s wheelchair title (this year he came in second). U of I grad Tatyana McFadden has won five of them.

Now add Susannah Scaroni to the list. She won Monday’s women’s wheelchair division with a time of 1:41.45. This is after placing second in 2018 and 2022.

She even had to stop and fix a wheel partway through the race, yet still was able to recover and cross the finish line first. Amazing.
