Last summer, the City of Champaign created a pop-up park on Hedge Road in the Garden Hills neighborhood. It is sort of a place holder for broader infrastructure improvements that will begin this fall. A new park will be a part of that development, along with detention basins, pedestrian bridges, paths, and more.

In the meantime, there will be one more summer of events at Hedge Pop! Park. They’ve already hosted a Memorial Day gathering, and Ice Pops with Cops. This Thursday, June 8th, from 5 to 7 p.m., will be the first of three game nights with food, games, and music.

Also on the calendar are story times, outreach and neighborhood input events, an ice cream social, STEM day, and Market @ Hedge. All events are free, and may be subject to change, so keep tabs on social media to confirm.

Community engagement and outreach events such as these are a part of the Gun Violence Prevention Blueprint, something our Editorial Board has elaborated on.
