Do you fancy yourself a creative baking type person who also has an affinity for literature? Maybe you should submit an entry to the Edible Book Festival on April 6th at Common Ground Food Co-op. This annual event, sponsored by the University Library, invites community members to “create an ‘edible book,’ which can be inspired by a favorite tale, involve a pun on a famous title, or simply be in the shape of a book (or scroll, or tablet, etc).” The entries are judged by a panel and awarded prizes for:

  • Best Depiction of a Classic
  • Best Visual Presentation
  • Most Appetizing
  • Funniest/Punniest
  • Best Entry Based on Book for Children or Teens
  • Best Collaborative Creation
  • People’s Choice

Maybe you aren’t interested in baking. Well then you can just show up around noon to look at all the creations, then sample them! Now, don’t be intimated by this award-winning entry by Tiara Winfield of Field of Sweets. You do not need to be a professional to enter this contest. Check our article from a handful of years ago to get a “taste” of the wide range of entries. Register here if you are interested in submitting an entry. You can drop off your creation between 9 and 11 a.m. Public viewing is at 11:30 a.m., and tasting will begin at 12:15 p.m.
