Good news for ice cream lovers: The Main Scoop ice cream parlor opened on Main Street in Monticello. This new ice cream shop is the second location for The Main Scoop, which opened the first location in 2021 on Main Street in Mahomet.

On Monday afternoon, I went for a drive to the new Monticello ice cream parlor with my ice-cream-loving child.
The Main Scoop’s nifty cone display made answering “Which kind?” as easy as pointing and saying, “That one.”
My kid ordered the cookies and cream one-scoop in waffle cone ($5.25). The chocolate on the cone was next level, and the ice cream was deliciously creamy with many chunks of frozen chocolate chip cookie dough.
I ordered the ice cream flight ($5.50) which came with any four flavors, and I chose black raspberry chip, pistachio, chocolate, and butter pecan. The black raspberry had a deliciously bold berry flavor with chocolate rectangles throughout, and I loved the rich cocoa flavor of the chocolate. The butter pecan was fine, but the pistachio flavor was so faint that it was a little disappointing; it tasted like sweet vanilla with occasional soft pistachios.
The new Monticello ice cream shop offers 20 different flavors including dairy-free options of Capannari brand ice cream. My kid already wants to go back to try the cosmic cookie flavor with some toppings.
The inside was spacious, and it still had that brand-new feel. If you do pack the car with kids or friends or whoever for a drive to Monticello, there are plenty of big tables inside for groups to enjoy ice cream together. Learn more on the ice cream parlor’s website.
