The Delta supercomputer is now fully operational

The Delta supercomputing system, built with help from a National Science Foundation Award, now has the go ahead to be officially deployed into action by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. An NSF panel worked with the Delta project team to determine its readiness, and it was approved for full operation and access to acquisition and operating funds.

Back in April, we were able to get a few photos of the new system, and speak with Co-Principal Investigator and Deputy Project Director Tim Boerner its development. Boerner described the purpose and function of the system in layman’s terms:

Often researchers will pose big questions that can only be answered with a lot of computing work. Delta will be used by researchers across the nation to help them answer these big questions that come up in their research. It will do this with its substantial computing power and ability to move large amounts of data around inside the system.

You can learn more about Delta on the NCSA website.
