Yesterday’s warm weather had me craving something fruity on ice, so this week, let’s quench our Thursday thirst with a piña agua fresca ($4) from Los Paisas food truck. This drink is pretty much the essence of pineapple. Served in a gigantic 32-ounce cup, the juice was super sweet and fruity with macerated pineapple that added texture and even more pineapple flavor. Every sip of this piña agua fresca was a tiny taste of something more tropical than Central Illinois in February.
It’s not just pineapple that this truck offers. The other agua frescas flavors are melon, limonada, fresa (strawberry), mango, Jamaica, tamarind, horchata, and sandía (watermelon), and we named the agua de sandía the BEST drink at a food truck of 2023.
The taco and aguas frescas truck parks on Cunningham Avenue in Urbana where Taco Motorizado was before it closed. Selling tacos, burritos, tortas, and these tasty iced drinks, the red truck is an extension of the red-roofed Mexican grocery Tienda y Carniceria Latina Los Paisas on Prospect Avenue — the one with chicharrones bigger than my face.
