Thirsty Thursday: Triptych Brewing’s Czech 10°

A pour of Triptych Brewing's Czech 10 pale lager in a glass mug at the bar of the Savoy brewery.

This pale lager is the Czech 10° from Triptych Brewing in Savoy. A Czech-inspired lager, it was a crisp, easy drinking beer with a super light flavor and 4.4 ABV. The beer was made using a special process called the decoction mash with Czech lager yeast, Czech barley, and Czech hops. From the very first sip, I liked the malty taste, and that mug was cool as hell. My pint cost $6. A small four-ounce pour is $1.75, or commit to it with a four-pack of cans ($10.99).

Started by four Champaign-Urbana beer enthusiasts and alumni of C-U’s BUZZ club, Triptych Brewing always has a rotating menu of eccentrically-named beers on tap. All their brewing is done at the Memery, a fermenting facility across the street named after the brewery’s award-winning flagship brew Dank Meme.

Besides the Czech 10° lager, other Triptych beers currently on tap include Dank Meme hazy pale ale, Luke’s Still Here Man Scottish ale, Indistinguishable from Magic hazy IPA, Grinding Ritual porter, and more. Find plenty of seating inside the taproom, plus the bar has pinball machines. Outside food is allowed, but I like to pair Triptych beers with food from a food truck. Often, Watson’s, Flour & Fire Pizza, La Paloma, or Patty’s Daddy’s park in front; check the schedule here.
