This week’s three questions are with Larry Gates II of Curb Service and Lorenzo Goetz, who will be at the Writers in the Round with Gloria Roubal at Rose Bowl Tavern this Thursday along with fellow songwriters John Coppess and Ashley Riley.

Smile Politely: If you could create a supergroup featuring any artists, living or dead, who would make the lineup, and what unique name would you give the group?

Larry Gates II: Forging a supergroup is no easy task.  With great power comes great responsibility (or something like that).  That said, I would have Anderson .Paak on drums, Prince on guitar, Carol Kaye on bass and all 3 Beasties on vocals.  I’d call them Skyote.

SP: Imagine one of your songs could transform into a theme park ride. Which song would it be, and what would the ride experience be like?

Gates: “Victory Girl”.  You would be seated as a belly gunner on a WW2 warplane – escaping enemy fire, trying to survive and make it back to your beloved. High octane action.  Big thrills. Wicked drops.

SP: If Curb Service was to provide an actual curb-side delivery service, what unique, music-themed item would you be delivering, and how would it reflect your musical style?

Gates: I could turn my record collection into a library service. Tell me what mood you’re in and I’ll match the vibe. Hip-hop, soul, classic rock, indie, reggae, jazz, old-timey country, crooners, classical, comedy, soundtracks – delivered right to your door. My vinyl collection is as broad and diverse as my musical output. You never know what I’m gonna drop next.
