Elizabeth A. Reese, Yunpoví (Willow Flower in the Tewa language) will be an assistant professor of law, making her the first Native American on the faculty at Stanford Law. She is a tribal law scholar, specifically focused on “the way government structures, citizen identity, and the history that is taught in schools can impact the rights and powers of oppressed racial minorities within American law.” She is a tribally enrolled member of Nambé Pueblo nation,
Reese is the daughter of Debbie Reese, founder of American Indians in Children’s Literature and co-editor of An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States for Young Adults, and George Reese, director of Mathematics, Science, and Tech Education at the U of I. She grew up in Urbana and graduated from University Laboratory High School.
