Urbana’s Market at the Square announces special events at the market in May

If you made it out to Urbana’s Market at the Square this past weekend (which had an estimated crowd of 4,800), you’re probably excited for farmers’ market season, which is arguably one of the best seasons there is in Champaign-Urbana.

Now that things are in full swing, Market at the Square has announced three special events taking place at the market in May, over the next three consecutive weekends. The events will feature an I.D.E.A. Store workshop, a blood drive, Sprouts at the Market and Read at the Market.

For more information on details and times, check out what Market at the Square’s description below:

May 13: Join the Urbana Public Arts Program on May 13th for a free jellyfish windsock workshop with the I.D.E.A. Store and musical performance by Vern and Vern. Activities are free for all ages and take place in the northwest corner of the farmers market from 8 a.m. to noon. CU Bike Month continues with Bike to Market promotions including a bike valet station located on the west side of the farmers market.

May 20: Sprouts at the Market is back for the season! Brought to you by First Federal Savings Bank of Champaign-Urbana, Sprouts at the market is our free nutrition, farm-linkage and mealtime programming for kids ages 3-8. This month kids will learn about a plant’s growing cycle, plant seeds to start their own garden, and sample parts of plans they may never have thought to eat! Programming takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the northwest corner.

May 20th also is the first farmers market blood drive of the season with Community Blood Services of Illinois’ Bloodmobile. That great opportunity to help your community takes place from 8-11 a.m. And to round off the programming, CU Bike Month continues with Bike to Market promotions including a bike valet station located on the west side of the farmer market. There will also be a great Life is Cycle beginners bike ride (details attached to this email).

May 27: The Urbana Free Library is back with Read at the Market – a free and all-ages program where you can browse part of the UFL collection, check out books, get a library card and read on the magic reading carpet with your favorite UFL librarians.
