From Champaign County’s Preservation and Conservation Association (PACA)’s website:
Have you heard? If you have not, the Champaign Park District plans on removing the existing art deco neon marquee and replacing it with a replica of the original marquee from 1921. They are doing this in the name of historic preservation, but it violates at least 4 of the 10 Standards for Rehabilitation published by the Secretary of the Interior.
You can let your opinion be known about this, if you are so willing, by taking a survey found on PACA’s website. There is also, of course, a Facebook page devoted to thwarting the CPD’s plans.
