Champaign County Regional Planning Commission

The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission, with the City of Urbana and some other agencies, are asking for your help with planning for improvements on Lincoln Avenue between Green Street and Florida Avenue. The Lincoln Avenue Corridor Study has been approved for Spring 2023 through Winter 2024. It has entered a stage where there is now room for public comment.

From the press release, emphasis mine:

The Lincoln Avenue Corridor Study is evaluating 1.2 miles of Lincoln Avenue in the City of Urbana, focused on the area between Green Street and Florida Avenue. This corridor is a high-priority, high-traffic location in the region and is situated in Urbana along the edge of the University of Illinois campus.

The goal of the study is to identify and coordinate infrastructure improvements to increase safety and mobility along this corridor. This will include addressing known high-frequency crash locations and proposing recommendations for safe and efficient multimodal improvements to the corridor. The project is a partnership of CUUATS (the RPC’s transportation planning division), the City of Urbana, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD).

Over the years this stretch of Lincoln Avenue has been the site of several car-pedestrian accidents, including at least one that killed a University of Illinois student in 2013. Since then, many improvements have been made, but there is clearly a need and desire to continue to improve.

You can complete the survey online. There will also be an open house on Tuesday, October 10th, with the opportunity to learn more about the study and share your thoughts.
