A new restaurant called Yatai opens this Thursday in Champaign on University Avenue across from Latitude apartments. According to the restaurant’s website, Yatai has “pride in creating the perfect fusion of flavors that will delight your taste buds. Our menu is guaranteed to satisfy even the most discerning palate.”

The menu is quite expansive. Find tonkotsu ramen, tori ramen, vegetable ramen, and udon in addition to dumplings, small plates, fried rice, Japanese-style rice bowls, hibachi noodles, poke bowls, and more. For drinks, the restaurant offers milk tea, fruit smoothies, slushies, Japanese soda, and tea with cool add-ons like coffee jelly and Oreo cookie. The new restaurant also serves fusion dishes: sushi tacos and sushi burritos. I want to try the shrimp tempura taco or the on-fire burrito (spicy tuna, salmon, crab, avocado, and lettuce with spicy mayo sauce).

Take a look at the dining room.
