If you’re looking for a way to get outside, get moving, get a little treat, and support a good cause, our two park districts are offering a way to do that this month.

On November 5th, Champaign Park District and C-U Special Recreation are hosting their annual Cupcake 5K at Carle at the Fields. This race is timed, for those of you who like to strive for certain times. But if you aren’t, that’s okay too! You can walk this race too. The course will be accessible, so those with wheelchairs will be able to participate. Online registration has closed, but you can register onsite from 8 to 8:30 a.m., and the fee is $40. There will be a 100 dash for kids 10 and under following the 5K. All proceeds benefit the CUSR Scholarship Fund, and you get rewarded with a cupcake.

On November 23rd, you can get your heart rate going and muscles moving before Thanksgiving dinner at Urbana Park District’s Annual Turkey Trot. This is the 56th year for the event. This one is just a 1K, and you can run or walk. It’s free to participate, and no pre-registration is needed, but donations are encouraged. They will benefit the Urbana Park District Scholarship Fund. You can also purchase a t-shirt at the event, or at the Phillips Recreation Center. Your treat for this one is a nice cup of hot chocolate at the finish. Check in starts at 8 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m.
