Market Watch: Last call

Well, it’s that time. Eventually all good things must come to an end, and the market is no exception. The market is officially celebrating the last Saturday of the season this weekend. Be sure to head over and stock up on fresh produce, baked goods, jams, and all the goodness the market has to offer! This season has been pretty great: there were so many great musicians, the introduction of some great new baked goods (cake in a jar, anyone!), fun events, and of course old favorites like goat cheese, free range chicken, and honey.  It’s so sad to say goodbye to such a good season, but have no fear, you can get your marketing fix in this weekend and the market will return again next May with lots of new things to explore. Plus, the Holiday Market will begin on November 9, so really there is no shortage of marketing in C-U.

Look out for lots of excellent fresh produce this Saturday. All this rain has to be good for something, right?  There will be eggplant, green beans, scallions, kale, spinach, apples, and peppers. If you haven’t been to the market in awhile, don’t miss this last opportunity to stock up on fresh produce. Last week I purchased some really tender, delicious kale, and I’ve been enjoying it all week.

As a reminder, the market will also be selling new Market Merchandise. Purchase your own “put a bird on it” shirt to wear proudly around C-U. You can even wear your new shirt to the Holiday Market when it opens on November 9 in Lincoln Square Mall. The Holiday Market will run Saturday mornings from November 9 to December 21 in Lincoln Square Mall, and feature unique goods and decorations, as well as produce and baked goods.

As usual, here is the full round up of market info:

Forms of payment: All vendors accept cash, and a few may take checks. Some vendors have card readers on their smart phones, but I haven’t seen too many of those.  See information about LINK tokens here. If you run out of cash, there is an ATM in the Lincoln Square Mall.

Parking: Free parking is available in the parking lots surrounding Lincoln Square Mall and the lot south of Illinois Street. Bike parking is also available at the entrances to the mall and at the bike corral area past the entrance to the market off of Illinois.

Information: You can follow the market on Facebook and twitter. Sign up for market mail here. If you want more information you can email Market Director Natalie Kenny Marquez  or call her at 217.384.2319.  And check out the market flickr for some gorgeous photos.

The final outdoor market is this Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. All events are scheduled rain or shine. C-U at the market!
