New York’s Steve Layman has a new album out, and it’s called Hope is All We Have. This is the very first stop on his pretty lengthy tour he has coming his way, and he’s joined by Old Fox Road, Philiphobia and Jack Johnson. Old Fox Road was in town at the end of September for their performance at Error Records, which was a show that was a late add to Pygmalion Music Festival 2013.

Champaign-Urbana hip hop emcee Young Blu is putting out his debut album on Wednesday night at the Highdive. He’s calling it Small Town, Smaller World, and he’s throwing a celebration as an early show featuring Teddie Cain Jr. That’s the album art right there to the left, so head over and see what he has in store for this release.

Electronica duo that mixes up a bunch of different sounds and styles in their music EOTO makes a visit to Urbana at Canopy Club this week. Members of this outfit are from the String Cheese INcident, and a pretty exciting live act.

WHEN: Thursday, November 14th at 9 p.m.

Certified Dope, DJ Mellow, and The Canopy Club are hosting Luminox, who will be providing his material on the main stage Thursday night. Not only him, but a handful of other artists to help him out, including a few locals.

WHAT: The Curses, The Claudettes, Mr. F, The Casual Ties

Local rock/folk outfit The Curses bring their warm tunes to the Velvet Elvis on Friday night. They’re joined by Chicago outfits the Claudettes and Mr .F, as well as funk rock outfit The Casual Ties. Should be a party.

EDITOR’S PICK: ON AN ON, SAVOIR ADORE, THE 92S
Mike ‘N Molly’s ($12) — Friday, November 15th at 9 p.m.

Really great show lined up on Friday night with a band who recently made a visit to C-U for Pygmalion 2013. Trio On An On bring their anthemic rock tones back to Champaign for a show this week at Mike ‘N Molly’s. Their full-length debut Give In is really something, and it’s worth listening to before heading out to this one. They’re joined by Savoir Adore and locals the 92s to round things out.

WHAT: Omens, Doomsayer, Deviant, Armada On Mercury

Iowa hardcore punk outfit Omens headline things over at Error Records on Friday night. They’re on a bit of a mini tour for this day as well as a couple of dates afterwards here in Illinois and in Iowa. They’re joined by locals Doomsayer, which is a hardcore duo which includes Error Records owner Nathan Landolt. Two others join to make this a four band bill to start out your weekend.

Indie folk singer-songwriter Joe Pug makes his way back through this portion of the state on his fall tour. You can grab his recent EP In the Meantime here and listen to that, well, in the meantime. Sera Cahoone opens up for Pug. We’ll talk to him and have something to publish later this week.

A local bill for Friday night’s show at Cowboy Monkey features The Ars Nova and A Cool Hand. The Ars Nova is a funk rock outfit, and A Cool Hand put out a brand new album last month called Long Live The Night, which Jason took a look at in last month’s installment of B-Sides.

Alberta, Canada’s rocker Corb Lund has a relatively new album Cabin Fever, and he’s making his way through at the Highdive for an early show on Saturday night. He’ll be joined by locals Cody & The Gateway Drugs as the opening act.

Another all-local bill is happening on Saturday night at Mike ‘N Molly’s. A bunch of musicians who perform in other acts around town here, as Bookmobile features Jared Roberts of The Stars, They Beckon, Luke Bergkoetter of Withershins and Take Care, and Los Assperados features Sam Cronenberg of The Stars, They Beckon and of Midstress (RIP) and Chris Wahlfeldt of Midstress as well.

There’s more information to come in regards to this show on Saturday night at the Velvet Elvis, but we know a few details at this point in time. Withershins will be performing their “last show until February 2014”, there is something “special planned”, and more bands should be added to the bill.
