The Overture: October 25 – 31

WHAT: A.O. Hootenanny with New Ruins, Huck Fate, Morgan Orion, Deathtram, Delta Kings, That’s No Moon, Tree Thump, the Painkillers

WHERE: Analog Outfitters (FREE)

WHEN: Friday, October 28th from 4:00 p.m – 12:00 a.m.

Local sound-extraordinaires Analog Outfitters are opening up a storefront and launching a new line of amps — what better way to celebrate than with a bunch of free music? You even get comedy set from Matt Talbott and Analog’s founders, Ben Hay and Ben Juday. We’ve also heard rumblings of free hot dogs.

WHAT: The Palace Flophouse, That’s No Moon

WHERE: Highdive (FREE)

WHEN: Friday, October 28th at 7:30 p.m.

Since WPGU went and committed seppuku a while back, WPCD has steadily slipped into my radio listening. In what is hopefully a sign of things to come, they’re presenting this early show/costume contest at the Highdive. Obviously, you should come in costume. If I don’t see at least two Seth Feins this weekend, I will be disappointed.

WHAT: Withershins, Terminus Victor, Franklin Felix

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Friday, October 28th at 10:00 p.m.

After Highdive, you’re going to want to keep those neon tights on for round two, which features a heavier lineup than the early festivities. Will Terminus Victor bring their seizure-worthy strobe lights for maximum spookiness? Seriously, keep those tights — you get cheaper cover with a costume.

WHAT: The Dirty Feathers, Troubadour Dali, Iron Tigers, Megan Johns

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, October 29th at 9:00 p.m.

The Facebook event for this show is promising “evil”, which seems to fit the organ-desert of the Dirty Feathers’ Midnight Snakes perfectly. You won’t find another band in this town who’s music is more fitted to Halloween than them.

WHAT: Psychic Twin, Take Care, Common Loon, DJ Harsh

WHERE: Iron Post ($TBA)

WHEN: Saturday, October 29th at 9:00 p.m.

Indie rock takes back the Post this Saturday, with Take Care and Common Loon opening things up. After Psychic Twin, Harsh will play an afterset. I predict this will be the creepiest show of all this weekend, but only because you’ll be brushing against so many people in the bar’s cozy confines.
